This week Janice Hamilton, a fish monger from Waitrose in Altrincham, delivered a demonstration to the Year 11 Food and Nutrition students on preparing, filleting and skinning fresh fish. This is an important high level skill required for their GCSE. Janice brought in some Sea Bass and Sea Bream and after showing them the different skills she gave the students the chance to have a go themselves. We really appreciate this opportunity to learn from an expert and the students thoroughly enjoyed the session. Thank you Janice.

Year 10 Bake Off Competition

On Tuesday 6th June, Olivier Trolallen from La Boheme returned to AGGS with his pastry chef, Jennie. This time it was the turn of the students to impress the two chefs with their skills. Each student had been asked to make a sweet or savoury tart with pastry. The end products were amazing. They were marked out of 30 for their appearance, flavour and quality of the pastry.

The four lucky winners, Natasha, isabelle, Georgia and Imela all won vouchers to spend at La Boheme in the restaurant, The two overall winners, Isabelle and Natasha, have been invited to spend a day in the kitchen with Jennie learning some tricks of the trade and making desserts to serve in the restaurant. Year 10 food and nutrition students go to the Food Sorcery in Didsbury

On Tuesday 2nd May the year 10  food and nutrition students spent a day at the new cooking school in Didsbury, the Food Sorcery.

The girls had a fantastic time. Some of the activities included  making shortcrust pastry for sausage or cheese rolls. They learnt how to make fresh pasta and they were given time to be creative and make their own shapes and work with the pasta rolling machines.  The day was a mixture of practical work and demonstrations and the chefs who worked with the girls were inspirational.
