Six students from 9-6 have been working on a virtual enterprise final for The National Enterprise Challenge which takes place next Weds 15th July. The students would have been attending the final competition in Birmingham competing against other schools, but due to the current situation, have had to adapt to complete their final presentation via an online platform. The students have worked incredibly hard to submit 7 pieces of work to conceptualise, design and market a new flavoured ‘Grenade’ health bar culminating in delivering a YouTube advert and a 4 minute presentation to the judges at TNEC.
Over 103 schools have submitted an entry, which under the circumstances of home schooling, is pretty impressive! We want to wish the Team consisting of Leen O, Ria P, Anusha P, Naina P, Emma Q and Antara R good luck with the final next week! The National Enterprise Challenge took place in school on Monday 20th January. This year’s challenge was to design and develop and innovative product for Grenade. All of Year 9 were split into teams and asked to create a new ‘carb killa’ protein bar for Grenade.
Our students were more than up for the challenge and got straight to work identifying a target market for a new protein bar, which they designed and branded themselves. The standards were high, and the students blew the judges away with their creativity and business acumen.
The day itself culminated in selecting finalists to pitch their ideas using a short presentation that included an overview of the product, PR and a short advertisement. Each group performed brilliantly and made it difficult for the judges to select a winner.
Leen O, Ria P, Anusha P, Naina P and Emma Q from 9-6 were finally selected as victors on the day with their Maple Pecan Pie bar. They will now be entered as finalists in the National Enterprise challenge, which will be held in Birmingham later this year.
Year 9 and 10 linguists enjoyed a talk given by Flight Lieutenant Gemma Slaughter, who works as a linguist for the RAF. There are over 60 jobs in RAF, with only 5% of those employed working with planes. There are lots of opportunities for sport and adventure training, as team building is key. Intelligence linguists are deployed across the world. Translating plays a key role in the peacekeeping role. Language analysis could involve cyber analysis, communication intelligence and surveillance. Pupils enjoyed listening to Gemma’s experiences of using her knowledge of Arabic and Pashto working in Afghanistan. Pupils learnt some key vocabulary in Pashto and used this to interpret a series of messages, saying when and where an attack was due to take place and what type of attack was being.
