Our Christmas markets looked a little different this year! Students had to get a little more creative and submit their business plans and photos of their prototype online. With the help of our Web Developer we were able to create an online virtual shop where we then asked students to vote over a week for their favourite product.
After over a 1000 votes – the votes were finally in for the winners of the Christmas Enterprise markets 2020!!

Mrs Walker and Mrs Gillibrand along with two of our Y12 Digital Leaders Rebecca and Ojas were privileged to have been invited last Wednesday 1 May to UKFast to share their celebrations in being awarded The Princess Royal Training Award 2019. Subsequent to receiving the award, HRH Princess Anne wanted to visit the UKFast campus to learn more about their culture and work within education.
As education partners of UKFast, Mrs Walker and Mrs Gillibrand, along with other schools and colleges, were honoured to meet The Princess Royal, who was very charming, interested and knowledgeable about the education sector.
The two Digital Leaders were involved in a classroom activity learning about the components of a server and coding. They also had the opportunity to talk to Princess Anne and show her what they were involved in doing. The Lord Lieutenant, High Sherriff and Lord Mayor of Greater Manchester were also there and were impressed by our Digital Leaders. It was a memorable opportunity and we had a thoroughly enjoyable morning followed by lunch there.

We are delighted to announce that three of our Year 12 students have been successful in an Enterprise Competition which has gained them each an individual prize of an iPad as well as a cheque for £2,500 for the school.
Jessica T, Nermine S and Aleeza H – Team name: Agapé were the winning team members in the Together Enterprise Challenge which was open to students aged 15-18 from schools across the North West.
They had to prepare a Business Plan to win the backing of the judges who were the CEO and three senior directors of Together Financial Services in Cheadle.
The brief this year was as follows; the students were given a plot of land in central Manchester. It was owned by an acquaintance of theirs who had heard about their business ideas and agreed to be a silent partner by allowing them to use the land to secure funding for their company. The land had been valued at £2 million.
The challenge for our students was to come up with a business idea, and to create a business plan, including funding and budgeting which our judges had already seen prior to the event. They also had to create a presentation to sell their ideas to our judges in an elevator pitch.
The competition was launched in September by the Enterprise Department of Mrs. Gillibrand and Mrs. Gerrard and since then the students have been working on their plan alongside the two other teams from our school who entered the competition.
Three teams completed the challenge and made their pitches in late November and the two successful teams were selected to go through to the finals by a panel which included Mrs. Gillibrand, Mrs. Gerrard and Mr. Murray.
At the finals on Tuesday 4th December our other teams gave wonderful presentations on their ideas and were highly commended for their originality by the judges.
In choosing their winning team the judges were highly impressed with not only the extremely passionate and professional quality of Agapés presentation but also by the extensive research which went into their business plan. Their idea was to improve the wellbeing of the people of greater Manchester. To do this they wanted funding to help create an app which would provide tips on improving wellbeing, healthy eating recipes, exercise plans and much much more.
The winning team members were delighted with their success and have received a massive boost to their confidence.…as well as their Apple collections. Thank you to Mr. Murray for going with the students to the final and for offering his support and advice.
The Y7, Y8 and Y9 Christmas Enterprise markets were as successful and as busy as ever this year. We had a variety of creative stalls selling; fridge magnets, gift tags, friendship bracelets, origami and homemade gift wrapped biscuits and sweets. Congratulations to all the students who took part, you all worked very hard to produce some amazing, original and good quality products. The winner for the best group and displaying the most entrepreneurial skills will be announced after Christmas.
