Lancashire Chamber Orchestra takes you to Paris!
The Lancashire Chamber Orchestra, now celebrating its 50th Anniversary Season, will treat you to music with a distinctive French theme, with works by Ravel and Mozart.
Ravel: Le Tombeau de Couperin
Ravel: Pavane pour une infante défunte
Mozart: Symphony No. 31 ‘Paris’
“Le Tombeau de Couperin” is Ravel’s own tribute both to French Baroque music and to several close friends who died in military service during the First World war. It is an opportunity for our wonderful wind players to shine, and especially our principal oboist Lindsay Kershaw. Ravel’s “Pavane pour une infante défunte” reflects his life-long interest in early Spanish music and in his Basque roots. Mozart’s sparkling “Paris” symphony (No 31) is the composer’s second work on a grand scale (the first being his “Haffner Serenade”) and shows his delight at having for the first time the opportunity to write a symphonic score which would include a full wind section, with the breadth of colour available from it.
Our Maestro will be the effervescent Mr Robert Chasey, who will continue to direct the LCO throughout the 2018 – 2019 Anniversary Season. As usual, there will be a delicious selection of cakes to enjoy with your tea or coffee at the interval.
The concert takes place at Altrincham Girls Grammar School, Cavendish Road, Bowdon WA14 2NL, on Sunday 24th March at 3pm.
Tickets can be reserved in advance via the Contact Form on the LCO website (see below), by phone: 0161 980 4275 or on the door, but please arrive early to guarantee yourself a good view!!
