During lockdown, Year 10 and Year 11 GCSE Dancers participated in a dance workshop on Zoom with James Cousins Dance company. They had an hour theory class from James Cousins himself, who is the choreographer of one the professional dances on the GCSE Dance Anthology! They then had a practical workshop with a James Cousins Dance Company dancer, George. This was a fantastic opportunity for the students and gave everyone a positive boost and lots of inspiration at a challenging time.
The GCSE Dancers worked very hard over lockdown to choreograph and create our first dance film. Edited by Mrs Anstey, the film is called ‘The Light Can’t Last Forever’ and our stimulus was grief. They have all worked so hard to create this film over the last few weeks and I am sure you will agree that it is a fantastic achievement.
Unfortunately, Vale’s time on the Greatest Dancer has now come to an end as they didn’t get through this week. You could watch their performance this week on BBC iplayer. They were the 2nd performance of the evening.
What an amazing achievement for Grace and her team to get to the last 7 acts and a fantastic experience to be involved in the process and all those live shows.
They will have one last chance to perform in the live final, with all 12 of the final acts, on Saturday 7th March on BBC1. They have also been asked to appear on Blue Peter!
195 students from Years 7-13 performed in this year’s production, Icons. What a fantastic show. Huge congratulations to everyone who performed or choreographed dances. A special thank you to the senior students who ran a weekly dance club this year. We really appreciate your talent, effort and commitment.
Huge congratulations to Grace (Year 10) who, together with her dance school Vale, is down to the final 10 acts on BBC1s The Greatest Dancer. Please keep watching and supporting, Saturday nights on BBC1. Good luck Grace. We are so proud of you!
Our whole school musical will be Chicago in July 2020. Students in Years 7, 8, 9, 10, 12 are invited to participate. You will need to be free to rehearse every Tuesday after school 3:30-4:45pm in the hall. Just turn up to the first rehearsal on Tuesday 14th April. If you want to audition for a main part, you must attend a music audition on Wednesday 19th February or Friday 21st February plus attend the dance and drama audition on Thursday 20th February. You must sign up for a time slot on the sheets outside the drama studio, and prepare one of the songs on the notice. Please see the posters outside the drama studio for more information, or speak to your dance / drama / music teacher.
Grace, with her dance school, is down to the final 12 dance groups in BBC1’s The Greatest Dancer! She is on Team Oti.
This Saturday, all 12 groups will perform new dances in the live challenge show. Who goes through each week is now down to the public vote, and 2 groups go home every Saturday. Fingers crossed Grace stays in the competition for as long as possible. They really deserve this amazing opportunity.
Please support Grace, the live shows start on Saturday (1st Feb) 6:30pm on BBC1.
