Dance Auditons

If you have been preparing a solo or group dance for the dance production, the auditions to show your finished piece are on: Tuesday 12th January.

Remember:

  • All dancers must be from the same year group
  • There must be no contact work, or being face to face with other dancers
  • Your dance must be finished (it doesn’t need to be very long 2-3 minutes is fine)
  • Bring your music on your phone / CD
  • You could also submit a dance film
  • The auditions on Tuesday 12th January will be from 3:40-4:30pm.
  • In January, you will be able to sign up to a time-slot on the dance noticeboard in the gym changing rooms. Once you have performed, you may leave.

Grace on BBC’s The Greatest Dancer

Grace S (Year 10) performed an amazing dance on The Greatest Dancer on Saturday evening with her dance school, Vale.

Here is the link to their dance in case you missed it:

What an outstanding performance! Huge congratulations to Grace, we are so proud of you!

Good luck to Grace, and Vale, for the upcoming callbacks in a couple of weeks time. We have everything crossed hoping you get through to the live finals. We will all be watching The Greatest Dancer on BBC1 on Saturday evenings.

Grace’s Dance World Cup success

Grace S (8-3) has had enormous success at the Dance World Cup. She won a place to represent the country at the national competition, and was selected to travel to the World Dance Cup Finals in Spain, as part of Team England.

46 countries, including USA, Canada, Australia and Russia competed throughout the week. There were over 5000 dancers competing for prizes. Grace had tremendous success and returned home with 6 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 1 bronze. Grace won Gold with her Jazz solo and so is now the World Champion Jazz Soloist. She was selected to perform this solo, as well as a duet and 2 group dances, for the Gala Showcase.

An amazing achievement. Well done, Grace! We are very proud of you!

Site-sensitive dance on the Devisdale

Year 10 GCSE Dance students have been creating their own versions of ‘Within Her Eyes’ by James Cousins. This is a professional dance from the GCSE Dance anthology. It is a site-sensitive dance for camera, using lots of contact work.

Our students have created their own versions and have been filming their dances in our local Devisdale park. They have had to consider locations, camera angles and choreographic devices to portray their own chosen choreographic intentions.

We have had lovely weather, beautiful locations and stunning choreography and performances. We are really looking forward to seeing the finished dance films.

BFET Arts Day

Our very first BET Arts Day was a great success! The day took place at z-arts and allowed students from all of our BFET schools to come together to participate in workshops in the Arts. Our Year 10 dance and drama students took part in workshops in art, dance, drama, music and physical theatre which culminated in a showing of the work created. 5 of our Year 10 students devised and led the AGGS workshop, teaching students physical theatre skills. They were a real credit to the school and led with confidence, demonstrating outstanding leadership skills. Well done!

What a brilliant day for everyone involved. What a great way to celebrate and promote the arts in our schools, be creative and explore the arts.

Sprung!

Congratulations to all the dancers who performed in SPRUNG. All GCSE students showed their stunning practical work; including performance duets, choreographies and set phrases. The evening was an opportunity for friends and family to see the hard work that had gone into their GCSE practical studies. Well done dancers! A special thank you to non-GCSE students who gave up their time to rehearse and perform in GCSE choreographies.
