Charity Day 2018
Tis’ the season to be jolly as AGGS festivities for the end of term have begun! Every year, AGGS students attend/participate in a variety activities on charity day. Everyone arrived in their own clothes and set up their stalls; from ‘guess the name of the teddy bear’ to sweet treats, the AGGS charity day stalls had it all! Not only did the dining hall feature a lively atmosphere this year, the main hall hosted two of AGGS’ annual events: the Year 13 pantomime and the talent show.
So sit back, relax and enjoy the reviews of this year’s charity day…
Year 13 Pantomime
As in previous years, Year 13 performed the traditional Charity Day pantomime. Based around the theme of ‘The Apprentice’, the different years in school competed to become Lord Gill’s next business partner. Battling it out in a series of classic Apprentice challenges, such as planning an event and finding certain items, who was hired?
It was a lot of fun, with the students responsible for writing, directing and performing the play themselves and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
As well as the pantomime, every year comes the revival of one of the most enjoyable school experiences: the school talent show, where we all come together – twice – to see some of the most talented, and confident, people in our school present their skills and talents. We were serenaded with an array of beautiful voices, and we marvelled at the different dances and acts displayed for us.
This year we had an extraordinary variety of acts, some AGGS traditions were upheld with the Bollywood dancers, many singers dazzled us with their voices, and we even saw Mrs Hulme take to the stage – just for our audience’s entertainment. Although everyone was wonderful, the winners particularly shone, with Lydia (Y10) winning the first talent show, and Elsa (Y11) winning the second.
Our own superstar panel of judges included Dr. Roberts, Miss Bloomfield, Mrs. Ryan and Mrs. Cleary in the first round and Mr. Nisar, Mrs. Gerrard, Miss Mitchel and Mr. Davenport on the second round, alongside the AGGS’ celebrity hosts: Mr Carr and Mr Barry. The talent show ran as brilliantly as usual, getting us all in the Christmas spirit as it always does. Now we just sit and wait patiently for next year as we get to experience this sensation all over again.
We hope everyone enjoyed charity day and the range of activities around the school. Now, it’s time to enjoy the holiday!
