Three Year 7 students, Archisha B (7-3), Emma L (7-3) & Achinthya P (7-2), travelled to Salford University recently to represent the school in the North West round of the Royal Society of Chemistry STEM Spelling Bee competition. The team competed against over twenty other schools from across the region and were tested on their ability to spell eighty scientific keywords. Each student in turn had sixty seconds to spell as many words from a predefined list as they could. Their combined total of 56 words saw them win the competition by an impressive 11 words and they received high praise from the judges and organising committee.
The three students involved were selected following an internal competition which saw over eighty Year 7 students try their hand at spelling as many scientific terms as they could in one minute. The top ten students then played off again to select the final three that went forward to Salford. Congratulations to the team and to all those that got involved.
