We’re delighted to launch a free, online course that is suitable for students in Year 12 or Year 13, who want to develop their understanding of criminology, criminal law or the police service.
The multi-disciplinary course is led by Dr Matthew Bacon from the University of Sheffield, with contributions from the police service, probation officers, and criminal lawyers. Topics covered will include: crime and criminal justice; policing; victims and victim support; restorative justice; prisons and places of confinement; community sanctions and measures; and desistance. Completing a course, such as this one, provides excellent material and information that students can use in their UCAS personal statement and when they are invited to interviews at university or for work experience placements.
The course is flexible and can fit around other study and work commitments. Students may choose to study only some of the course materials whilst those who complete the whole course (3 hours per week for 7 weeks) can buy a ‘Statement of Participation’.
We welcome your support in sharing information about this course with your students. For more details about the course content and to watch the introductory video, please visit https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/crime-justice-society or download the attached two-page pdf.
