University of Birmingham – Modern Languages

Innovative Modern Languages Degree
The Department of Modern Languages has developed a truly innovative and flexible programme in conjunction with The Open University, aimed at those who wish to study a degree in Modern Languages but do not take Languages at A-Level.

Students will firstly spend two years with The Open University where they can learn a language from beginner level (German, Italian or Spanish) or develop a language from post-GCSE level (French, German, Italian or Spanish). The students will then enter directly into Year 2 of the BA Modern Languages degree at the University of Birmingham, spending a further three years studying alongside students that entered in the traditional way. The degree programme will include a Year Abroad, allowing students to immerse themselves in their target language.
