SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY TASTER DAY

Lancaster University
Year 12 Science and Technology Taster Day

Friday 30th June 2017

On Friday 30th June 2017 Lancaster University will be holding its 13th annual Year 12 Science and Technology Taster Day. Over the years we have had over 2000 students from 40 schools and colleges attend this event. The day will give students a taste of university life and provide them with an opportunity to discover whether they would enjoy and benefit from studying science and technology subjects at a top ten university.

Departments are well underway with their planning and are looking forward to welcoming students and teachers to campus for an exciting and informative day of subject taster sessions and a sampling of university life.

As places are limited, now is your chance to reserve places for Altrincham Grammar School for Girls. Last year, sessions were offered in Biology, Chemistry, Computing and Communications (ICT), Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography, Physics, Psychology, and Student life/Finance. Choices will be requested from schools and colleges after the Easter break but in the meantime, estimated student numbers can be reserved.

Students will be given the opportunity to select two different disciplines, one for the morning session, the other for the afternoon. The likely format will be:

9:45-10:00 Registration/Introduction
10:00- 11:00 Campus Tour and Welcome (including accommodation if time permits)
11:00-12:30 Session 1
12:30-1:15 Lunch
1:15-2:45 Session 2

The day is aimed specifically at those students studying relevant A-levels (or equivalent), and who are likely to be considering studying science and technology subjects at university in future. During this one day event the students will attend a series of short lectures or practical workshops and have the opportunity to talk informally to staff and current students from the various departments. Refreshments and lunch will be provided for the students and staff who attend.
