AGGS vs Alderley Edge School Badminton Competition

Well done to the 16 young ladies from AGGS who took part in the badminton fixture last night vs Alderley Edge. The games were very competitive which some good rallies and the competitive atmosphere was friendly and fun.

In the Under 14s group lots of games were very close and high scoring. AGGS beat Alderley Edge 5 games to 4 in round 1 and the scores were reversed in round 2 with Alderley Edge winning 5-4, making this round a tie at 9 games all. There was a great match between Anusha and Lauren ending 20-22 and  Samyu and Amy ending 21-19.

In the under 16s and under 18s age groups the results were less close with AGGS winning 18 games to 0 and 12 games to 0 with impressive performances from Maariyah in the singles beating her opponent 21-1 and Olivia and Sophie in the doubles beating  their opponents 21-4.

The girls will continue to train on Monday nights down at Altrincham Leisure centre and anyone else interested in joining our team should come down too.  All the information and dates are on the notice board at school. All rackets and coaching provided for £2.

English School Cross Country Finals

Saturday 25th November, 5 AGGS cross country runners set off down to Kent very early in the morning for the Cross Country Finals.

Ms Payne wrote: All girls ran really well and should be very proud. Sadly Emma had to drop out due to injury but there were beautiful conditions on a really fast course: it wasnt quite the muddy and hilly course we are used to up north.

Congratulations to our finishers in order of position;
43 Millie P
47 Laura H
86 Charlotte L
91 Aimee R
DNF Emma S

This meant that AGGS were 18th overall with a score of 267.

Well done.

Pitcured, Millie, Laura, Aimee, Charlotte and Emma.

A huge thankyou from the PE department to Ms Payne for attending as the team manager and for the parents of the competitors for driving the girls all the way to the event and for cheering them along. Without parental support we couldn’t enter events like this and I know the girls are very grateful. Lets hope the finals are closer to home next year!

National Schools Badminton Championships : Round 1 – Trafford

This afternoon AGGS took on Flixton, Lostock, Stretford, and Sale Grammar in the first round of the National Schools Badminton Championships at Sale High School.

Cross Country Update 2017

The AGGS Cross Country team are very excited to be through to the National Final of the ESAA Cross Country Cup which will take place in Kent on 25th November.

This is their journey so far.

The local rounds of this competition started in October with 1690 teams taking part across England competing against other local schools in their county. AGGS competed against other local schools and Longford Park and qualified for the regional round as one of the top three teams. The regional round took place this weekend in Sedburgh. It was a very cold morning and the rain the night before made the already difficult course very very muddy. Through grit and determination AGGS qualified in 3rd place and are through to the National Final in Kent in 2 weeks time. Here they will face the best 3 teams from the North, South, East and West and will compete to become Champions of England.
The Team was Laura H, Alice D, Millie P, Charlotte L, Emma S and Aimee R.
Special mention needs to go to Aimee who actually completed most of the course with ONE SHOE after it getting stuck in the mud on the first corner!! A true display of determination and team spirit.
Well done everyone and good luck.
