For the past 2 weeks AGGS girl’s have been battling hard on the Devisdale to try and secure places in the national Schools Hockey Competition. The first round is regional, so all teams in the Greater Manchester area are invited and represent their school in U18s, U16s and U14s category.
With some excellent players on our teams we hoped for some success stories, however, the wind and rain, and determination of all the teams to go through made for a very challenging tournament. The U16s and U18s sadly got knocked out but the U14s have gone through as runners up.
Mrs Hardicre reports:
The U14 Hockey team played in the first round of the National schools competition. We played against Stockport, Loreto, Manchester High and Cheadle Hulme. We won against Stockport 3-0 and Loreto 2-0. Then drew 0-0 to Manchester High and Cheadle Hulme. It was a close tournament that left Manchester High, Cheadle Hulme and AGGS in joint 1st so it went down to goal difference. We are through to the next round as runners up and Manchester High went through as the winners. The team managed to hold it together and played to a high standard. We will be training hard for the next round in November!
