The year 8 mini hockey team took part in the North West final of the National Mini Hockey Competition at The Grange School, Hartford on Wednesday. They had qualified for this tournament from the Greater Manchester County final earlier on in the season as runners-up

Our first match was against Kirkham Grammar School (Lancashire winners). We soaked up a lot of pressure but lost the match 1-0. We did have a great chance to draw level but it wasn’t to be. Our next match was against Sedbergh School (Cumbria winners). We drew 0-0 but had loads of shots on goal. They had a very good GK who kept the ball out of the goal!! Our third game was against The Grange School, Hartford. They were a very strong team with several playing on the County teams. Again we soaked up a lot of pressure but again lost 1-0, not taking at least one great chance to score. We then beat King Ecgbert School (South Yorkshire Runners up) 2-1. Yeah!!!!! We had our first win!!! Our final match was against Liverpool College (Merseyside winners) and we went out in style winning the match 9-0!!!!!!

These results placed us third overall which was a very credible performance against some very strong teams. Unfortunately only the top two teams qualify for the North of England final in Leeds.

Never mind girls. You had a great tournament. Everyone enjoyed the experience and all played well. Unfortunately our mascot did not bring us much luck!!!!! You need a different one next time!!!!
