The year 7 ‘A’ team had been invited to the AKA Jean Torrance Memorial Tournament last Saturday. We have been supporting this tournament for a number of years and the best we have ever done is reach the semi-finals. Schools come from all over the country : Edinburgh, The Malverns, London, Rossal and Lytham.

The tournament was organised in 2 sections of 4 teams.

In our section we beat AKA’s Year 8 ‘B’ team(Arnold/Queen Mary School) 1-0 : we beat City of London Freeman’s School 2-0 : and beat Rossall School, Lancashire 2-0.

This put us into the semi-finals as winners of our section. We then played AKA YEAR 7 team and won 1-0.

The final was played against Mary Erskins’s School, Edinburgh. After full time the score was 0-0 ( although we did have a goal disallowed) so we shared the trophy as joint winners. The girls also received a plague as a momento of the day.

It had been a wonderful day’s hockey and the girls really enjoyed the experience of their first tournament at ‘Alty Girls’. A lot of the parents came to support and I would like to thank them very much. They joined us all for a lovely cooked lunch (with a little tipple of wine, beer and prosecco!!!!). Everyone was also involved in a whole group photograph.

The girls even had a trip to the beach which was a lovely break from playing hockey.
