NATIONAL SCHOOLS’ BADMINTON SUCCESS

The U16 and U14 North West Regional round of the National Schools’ competition was held today at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester.

Both teams had qualified for this competition as Greater Manchester winners in a previous tournament.

U16 team played 3 matches. They beat Newman Catholic School 5-0 and beat Queens’ School, Chester 5-0. They went into their final match against Kirby Grammar School, knowing that if the won they would qualify for National Finals, but it wasn’t to be!!! After the first round of matches we were winning 2-1. We needed to win one of the two remaining matches to win. Both games were exceptionally close. We lost both games 15-14!!! It could not have been any tighter. Unfortunately this loss meant we had not qualified for the National Finals. The girls were devastated as they were so close to success. They had done really well, though, as 2 year ago, playing the same opposition hey had finished 3rd.

The team went into their final game against Queen Elizabeth School, Cumbria knowing that if they won the match they would qualify for the National Finals, in May, at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes.

The won the game 5-0 so had made it!!!!

Congratulations girls, you won the tournament, won a gold medal and qualified for National Finals – how good is that?
