YEAR 10 Sports Leaders in the community

14 of the year 10 Sports Leaders helped run the year 5 and 6 Sports hall athletics finals at Altrincham Leisure Centre on Wednesday.

They did a great job and were praised for their hard work and efficiency by the organisers. They really enjoyed the experience and can now look forward to the year 1 and 2 events which start just before Easter.

The U15 cricket team had a narrow escape against Sale Grammar School in the Trafford round of the National Schools’ competition.

We bowled first and Sale were all out for 58 runs.

It was then our turn to bat. We were 37 for 7 when Ellie R. came into bat needing to score 21 runs. She eventually scored 24 runs, winning us the game. Well done Ellie.

The team now go through to the county final after Easter.

Well done to the U14 ‘A’/’B’ team for their 3-1 against Lymm’s ‘A’ team. In the squad of 14 players there were 6 ‘A’ team players but in the match only 3 of them played at any one time. The girls who do not normally play on a Saturday morning played some excellent hockey. Well done girls. We have so much strength in depth in year 9 at ‘Alti Girls’.

Indoor athletics

A year 7 team competed in the Manchester Schools’ Invitation competition last Friday.  There were schools from all over the Greater Manchester area and the opposition was tough.  It was the girls first experience of running/jumping/throwing in an indoor arena and they all performed well.  The team came 10th overall out of 16 schools.

Well done to Olivia 7-4 who received a bronze medal in the 200m.

Cross Country

Congratulations to all our runners who competed for Trafford in the Greater Manchester Cross Country championships last Saturday.

Olivia, Kirsten and Selin competed in the minor girls race and finished in 8th, 34th and 58th place respectively.

In the junior race, Millie, Laura and Charlotte all ran and finished in 7th, 16th and 31st place.  Millie has been selected to represent Greater Manchester in the National Finals.

Hannah came 4th overall in the intermediate race and has been selected to represent Greater Manchester in the National Finals.  She also won a team Gold medal.

In the senior race, Francesca finished 2nd overall and Alice in 18th.  Francesca is also selected for the National Finals.

Best of luck to Millie, Hannah and Francesca in the finals on the 18th March.

We set off to Preston Arena not knowing if we had enough players to play as so many had rung in saying they had been ill all night or were still recovering from illness!!!

1stX1 lost 3-1

U16X1 with only 3 of their age group available played with a mixture of year 12’s, 11’s, 10’s and 9’s. Even so they won 1-0. Mrs O’Neal had been watching and said they played really well together. So much for practicing as a team!!!!!

U15X1 won 2-0

U14X1 won 1-0

The year 7 and 8 mini teams were the teams mainly designated by ill players

U13’A’ lost 4-2.                 U13’B’ lost 1-0

U12’A’ lost 4-0.                 U12’B’ lost 3-2

It is the first time in a while that the junior teams have lost so it will give them something to think about in the matches after half term.

There are NO matches next Saturday as it is half term.

There are also NO matches the first week back as free half term as most of the schools we play are on their half term.

The next fixtures are on Saturday 4th March for U18 (their county tournament at Home) and the year 7 tournament at Arnold/Queen Mary School , Lytham. Sorry no matches for U16, U15, U14 or U13.

It’s the time of the season when there are tournaments so we are not able to offer full fixtures. See fixture card for further details.
