The year 12 and 13 hockey players took part in the final county round of the competitions that have been held at the Devisdale over the last couple of weeks. Their goal was to finish winners or runners up to qualify for the next stages of the competition.

Their first match was against Withington Girls’ School which they won 5-1. They hen played Stockport Grammar School, the tournament favourites. They had been at National Schools’ finals for the past two years. We lost the game 6-1 but the umpires even said the result did not reflect the way the girls played. They played some excellent hockey and had a lot of possession at times. The skill level of the two England players that Stockport had on their team was amazing.

The girls came back fighting in their 3rd game against Loreto Grammar School which they won 3-0.

The deciding match was the last match against Cheadle Hulme School. All we had to do was win to qualify. The girls tried everything and had 6 penalty corners to Cheadle’s 1but they could not find the back of the net. The final result was a draw 0-0. We lost out on goal difference which was a great shame.

The girls played some magnificent hockey. I was very proud of them all.
