NATIONAL SCHOOLS’ SWIMMING

The junior, intermediate and senior swimming teams took part in the English Schools’ Swimming Association North West Secondary School Team Finals on Friday at Everton Park Sports Centre, with the following results :-

There were 24 teams in the junior girls event and our team (year 8) came 12th in the freestyle relay and 17th in the medley relay. Well done girls. All goes well for the future.

There were 23 teams in the Intermediate girls event for years 9 and 10. Such is the standard of swimming that takes place out of school from ‘Alti’ Girls, that they wanted to enter 2 teams. The ‘B’ team were 15th in the medley relay and 13th in the freestyle relay. The ‘A’ team were 6th in the freestyle relay and 4th in the medley relay – narrowly missing out on a bronze medal.

Intermediate ‘B’ team

Phoebe Sullivan- Jones was also on the ‘B’ team.

Intermediate ‘A’ team

Laura Hole was also on the ‘A’ team.

There were 14 teams in the senior event (years 11, 12 and 13). Our team, which included 3 of the swimmers who reached the intermediate National Finals last year, finished 3rd in the freestyle and medley relays, winning bronze medals for their great swims.

We will not know if we have reached the National Schools’ Finals in any event until all the areas in England have taken place, as everything is done on times. These should all have been completed by the end of October so we will have to keep our fingers crossed, particularly for the senior free and medley teams and the intermediate medley team.

I would like to say a very big thank you to Mr Potter who was there to help the girls and make sure they were in the right place at the right time for their practice swims and their races. As a non-swimmer, I could not have done it without him. Thank you.
