Hockey matches were played against St Bede’s on Saturday morning with he following results :
U16X1 won 5-1
Unfortunately one of our players fell and injured her knee
U15X1 won 2-0
The U13 team had a strange game!! They arrived at school expecting to play a 7 aside match, giving the ‘B’ a chance of a game, but ended up playing 10 aside. Anyway there was lots of running about and they drew 0-0, which was a fair result against St Bede’s ‘
Some of our year 10 girls are taking the Sports Leaders Level 1 course in their general PE lessons. Part of this course includes going out into the community to volunteer their help to different organisations.
Last week 11 of these girls went to Altrincham Leisure Centre to help organise a junior indoor athletics competition. They did a brilliant job of measuring, organising and demonstrating. Several of the organisers commented on how well they had done and how they were a such a pleasure to work with. Thank you girls. You were a credit to the yourselves and the school.
We will be helping again in a couple of weeks with another group of girls.
We had qualified for this competition with two teams as we had been winners and runners-up in the Traford round.
The ‘B’ team gained some valuable experience and although hey did not qualify from their section they played some good badminton.
The ‘A’ team flew through their section winning all 3 matches 5-0. In the semi-finals they met Failsworth School, who have won this competition before. We lost 3-2 but we could so easily have won as we lost one game 15-14. Failsworth went on to win the competition. So our team were losing semi finalists and won the bronze medal.
A number of our Year 11 GCSE PE students were also there umpiring the numbers us matches. They did great job and were very professional.
Unfortunately the school we were scheduled to play cancelled this fixture at the end of last week due to staffing shortages on that day. I have been trying to replace them and find another school but I have been unsuccessful.
We are at home to Withington next Saturday. All fixtures have been on the blog since the start of September! They were updated at the start of this week. Girls should be making a note of these dates in their diaries. Thank you, Mrs Walker.
Congratulations to the year 7 indoor athletics team who competed in this competition against 7 other local schools. After a number of running, jumping and throwing activities AGGS were announced as the winners. The team now goes through to represent Trafford at the Greater Manchester School Games in March. Very well done to Charlotte, Holly, Olivia, Anna, Samyu, Alicia and Aimee – a great team performance.
Also well done to the year 8 team, Laura, Emma, Millie, Lucy and Mary who also competed and finished in 3rd place out of 9 schools.
Congratulations to Victoria Barlow in year 10. She competed at the English Institute of Sport, in Sheffield for the U17 Girls Northern Championships in the pole vault and won the event with a vault of 3.20m. She is now currently 4th in the UK in this event. What an outstanding achievement. Well done Victoria. We wish you well in future competitions.
