It was a wet, windy and very early start for the Junior Cross Country team on Saturday as we left school at 7.45am and headed for the National Finals of the English Schools’ Cup in Bedford. The girls had previously competed in the county and regional rounds to reach the last 25 schools out of an original 500 who had entered the competition.
Weather conditions in Bedford were slightly better than Manchester – still very windy but dry at least. A total of 145 runners lined up for the start of the Junior Girls race. It was then a nervous 10 minute wait for the parents, Mr Capon and myself as we stood near the finish line. The first of our girls to appear was Laura who finished in a magnificent 14th place with a time of 9m27s. It was a very close race with large numbers of runners recording the same times. Next to finish was Millie in 64th place but only 28 seconds behind Laura. Alice finished in 68th, Emma in 75th, Charlotte in 118th and Holly in 121st. Overall Alty finished in 13th position which is a fantastic achievement – well done girls – very proud of you.
Thanks to the girls for running, the parents for supporting and Mr Capon for giving up his Saturday to support too.
