1stX1 lose out in close National Schools’ Hockey Competition

The 1stX1 played some excellent hockey but lost out in the end to Stockport Grammar School and Cheadle Hulme School in the first round of this National competition.

We won our first match 5-1 against Withington Girls’ School and then drew with Stockport Grammar School (the eventual winners) 1-1. We went into the final match knowing that we would be through to the next round if we drew or beat Cheadle Hulme School. We lost the match 3-1 but it was very close and could have gone either way.

Well played to Bethan Lowe, Emma Whalley (twin captains) and their team.

Teams reaching the North West Finals of the English Schools’ Cup have been announced.  And both the Junior and Intermediate teams have qualified! Well done.

The Finals are on Saturday 14th November at Canon Slade School – Junior race is at 1pm and the Inters is at 1.20pm.  More details will be sent to you soon.

Lacrosse success

Girls from AGGS did well at the recent U18 Lancashire lacrosse trials.

Lexi Molnar, Emily Hall, Lydia Hewitt and Erin Pollard were selected for the ‘A’ team

Kate Walker and Ellie Racle were selected for the ‘B’ team.

Well done girls and good luck for the season.

Tennis : so near and yet so far

Were were so close to winning our second round knock-out match v a very strong Wolverhampton Girls’ High School today.

After the 4 singles matches we were 3-1 down. This could easily have been 2-2 with one of our players losing out 7-5 in a very closely contexted rubber.

The doubles results were all square : one win for each team which meant we lost the match 4-2. The first doubles match (our first ranked player and our third ranked player) was decided on a tie-break which we unfortunately lost. Our second pair won quite comfortably 6-3.

So, our time in the National Schools’ competition has come to an end for another year. Well done girls for such an exciting match. You played some excellent tennis.

Team : Amber Thoms, Olivia Smith, Georgia Bailey and Sophie Buttrum.

Greater Manchester and North West netball success!

Congratulations to Emily and Niamh who have been selected to attend the Greater Manchester Netball Academy and Elena and Laura who have been selected at regional level to represent the North West! The netball selection process is very tough with so many girls across the region playing this very popular sport in every school and at club level. The girls have worked very hard for these places and we wish them every success. We are very proud of you!
