Celebrating India fortnight

Over the last two weeks, pupils have been celebrating the language history and culture of India. This has focussed on our KS3 pupils, with a variety of activities taking place, such as samosa making; jewellery making; sitar playing in assembly; learning new Indian languages; talks about Indian politics, Indian history and Indian religions; Indian dancing; Hinglish; playing Kabaddi and cricket. We are very grateful to departments for coordinating such interesting activities and to the pupils themselves, who have led many of them.

Augsburg Exchange

Augsburg Exchange 2018

We arrived back safely last night at midnight from the Augsburg exchange. Students stayed with host families and took part in 4 days’ work experience in a variety of placements, including schools, a fair trade shop, the tourist information office, a lawyer and an architect. They really enjoyed experiencing German culture at first hand and benefited hugely from the opportunity to practise their German, both in the workplace and with their partners.

AGGS Christmas Lunch

Christmas Lunch

On Wednesday 20th December students and staff enjoyed their Christmas lunch. There was a lovely festive atmosphere in the dining hall with Christmas music, crackers and party hats. Many thanks to the catering team, the midday assistants for ensuring it was such an enjoyable lunchtime for everyone.

Please help us make their Christmas Day special this year.
In 2016 we made Christmas special for over 61,800 local children, and we want to do even more this year.

Find Your Inner Elf

We’re asking you to buy an extra present that we can give to a disadvantaged local child to make their Christmas morning special. We need new and unwrapped gifts suitable for children and young people aged 0-18 years, and you can donate at our drop off points across the region.

Y6 Induction Day

Year 6 Induction Day
Year 6 Induction Day

On Thursday 6th July we welcomed 180 eager Year 6 pupils from more than 40 primary schools to our Induction Day. These girls will be our new Year 7 year group from September. The day started in the Main Hall with assembly and an introduction to many of the members of staff at school.

During the day pupils had the opportunity to meet their form tutors, get to know each other better and to sample a range of lessons. They even had the opportunity to navigate around the school site with plenty of them getting lost along the way!

The girls enjoyed themselves and their minds were hopefully put at ease by the experience. Year 7 senior tutor, Mr Lovelady, saidIt was wonderful to see so many happy faces. We are all looking forward to welcoming the girls in September and know that they are going to work well together as a year group”.

Maths/MFL Roadshow

Math/MFL Roadshow, June 2017

On Thursday close to seventy Year 8 and Year 9 pupils from seven different schools across the area (including AGGS, Cedar Mount and MCA) got together in the AGGS main hall for the Maths/MFL Roadshow. The hall was alive with activity and conversation as the pupils set to solving maths problems in pairs. The extra challenge was that all the problems were written in French, Spanish or German! Pupils worked really well together, some even managed to work out problems in languages they weren’t studying. There were some very helpful Year 10 students from AGGS present to help out when the going got tough and to check answers when success had been achieved.

Thank you to everyone who helped out in any way to make the event run so smoothly, we will hope to be running a similar Roadshow next year.’

AGGS Summer Fair

The AGGS Summer fair took place on Saturday. It was a lovely event, which was well attended and thankfully the rain held off! The initial figure is over £3000 from Saturday’s count and we will confirm the final total next week. The raffle will be drawn on Tuesday in Year 8 assembly and there will also be cake sales this week and the chocolate tombola will be in the hall every lunchtime.

Many thanks to everyone who attended hope you’ve enjoyed it.
