A group of Year 10 Business Studies and Food Technology students went to an Enterprise competition sponsored by Kelloggs on Tuesday, 28th June 2016.
Raaj, Hannah, Alice, Rajiyah, Ann, Laura, Sumayya and Olivia had a great day, put on a great performance and came second, meaning they are through to the regional final. They had to design a new cereal, market it and set up the factory to make it in.
On Wednesday 26th May, 60 Year 5 pupils from Bowdon Church Primary School came to AGGS to take part in a design and technology morning. The pupils were able to experience design and technology in a secondary school in all three areas; Food, Product Design and Textiles. Everyone had a very exciting morning completing three different end results to take home with them including a pizza toast, a felt photo frame and a laser cut personalised ruler. Each result was designed and manufactured by the Year 5 pupils with help from the design and technology teachers at AGGS!
Last week staff and students from AGGS took part in the 2016 Cookathon set up by the British Nutrition Foundation. All students and staff were encouraged to make this years recipe which was a delicious Shepherd’s Pie.
Thank you to all those who entered. As you can see their efforts were well rewarded.
We have come as ‘Highly Commended’ in a STEM club competition for the activity we were running in the lead up to National STEM Clubs Week. Despite the large numbers of high quality submissions the judges were most impressed with our entry, and we are to receive a certificate acknowledging our achievement.
See below the entry from our STEM club for the STEM club week competition:
Initially, the students designed their moulds on computers using a CAD program. Their designs were then laser-cut in two layers which students sanded down and then built up into a former. The following week students created their moulds using the vacuum-former and then melted and poured their chocolate.
Well done to the girls and staff who helped.
This term we have been running a smoothie competition in Food Technology. The final took place on Monday 9th November and was judged by the owner of the juice bar “Suko” in Hale. He was very impressed by the standard of the seven finalists : Kitty, Jenny, Jenna, Georgina, Aishah, Millie and Isabel. After deliberating on quality of taste and appearance, as well as presentation and nutritional value, he chose Aishah and Kitty as the winners. Their smoothies will soon be available for sale in Suko. They are a delicious way of ensuring you are getting a good balance of fruit and vegetables in your diet.
A big thank you to Peri from Suko and Jade in Year 12 who ran the competition.
