Macmillan Cancer SupportOn Friday 23rd February Mr Carr will be hosting the annual Macmillan quiz here at AGGS, in the Main Hall. MindR.E.D. January sees participants run every day throughout the month covering as little or as much distance as they like. The event is organised by Mind and is designed to raise awareness about mental health and highlight the power of exercise when it comes to dealing with stress and anxiety. Mr Carr has pledged to run at least 100 miles in the month. Check back at the start of February to see how he got on.

Mr Carr’s 12-12-12 Charity Challenge 2018

Mr Carr's 12-12-12Between the summers of 2014 and 2015 Mr Carr took on a series of challenges, one per month, for twelve charities. Events included things like the Manchester Marathon, the Great Manchester Cycle, Movember, a 160ft bungee jump and a head shave. He managed to raise over £2400.

Mr Carr has decided that 2018 is the year to do it again, but this time bigger and better (and perhaps harder?!) with the hope of raising even more money. Twelve challenges across twelve months, this time for two charities, Macmillan and Mind. The third twelve in 12-12-12 this time comes from the fact that Mr Carr is only asking people to sponsor him £12 (though feel free to give more or less).
Events this time include R.E.D. January (Run Every Day January), the Manchester Marathon, the Great North Swim, the Windermere triathlon, cycling coast to coast, and more. Keep your eye on the bulletin for updates and information about forthcoming events that we all could get involved with.

Year 9 – Ryman National Enterprise Challenge 2018

Year 9 - Ryman National Enterprise Challenge

Year 9 – Ryman National Enterprise Challenge, January 2018ASPIRE

On Tuesday 16th January the Year 9’s took part in the Ryman National Enterprise Challenge whose ambassador is Theo Paphitis! The challenge this year was set by Ryman and it was to create an item of stationery which could be used by Ryman customers. It couldn’t replicate anything that Ryman have done before, it had to be unique.

By taking part in this Challenge not only did the girls enjoy the experience but also gained skills in creativity, management, entrepreneurship and team work, all attributes which are essential in today’s world.

Year 9 – Ryman National Enterprise Challenge, 1st place – Ready 2 Rule’ from 9-5

As you would expect all the groups came up with exceptional ideas and it was very hard to judge. Unfortunately, there could only be one winning team and that was ‘Ready 2 Rule’ from 9-5 which was made up of Mboje, Mimi, Rose, Florence, Ella and Milly. Their product was a pencil case within which was a pencil pot aimed at organising Y7 and Y8 students. They presented their idea with a very catchy rap and slogan – ‘restart, repeat, reorganise!’
‘Ready 2 Rule’ will now go onto the National Finals at Telford International Centre in July to compete against over 250 schools.
We wish them the best of luck.
