The 4th Bowdon Youth Festival will take place over the weekend 4th & 7th February 2016.
Classes for Brass, Woodwind, Strings, Piano, Organ,Voice, Choir, Speech and Drama. Certificates for all entrants and Class prizes.
Making a most welcome return to conduct and direct the orchestra from the harpsichord is JUSTIN DOYLE from Opera North, formerly director of the Manchester Chamber Choir and now too working with the BBC Singers. We are very privileged –and fortunate-to have as our soloist for this concert , the distinguished soprano Bibi Heal who has already established an outstanding reputation nationally and internationally on the opera stage, in oratorio and in a extremely diverse variety of other musical genres. The first half of the concert is a “Handelfest” with extracts from some of Handel’s many operas. The second half will include some rarely heard Haydn works including an early symphony and Bibi Heal will join the orchestra in one of Mozart’s finest works for the solo voice the concert aria “Ah lo previdi” which the composer wrote especially for one of the greatest singers of his day.
A true musical treat in store for all.

Congratulations to all 160 performers who took part today in our very first ever AGGS Music festival. It was wonderful to hear so many wonderful performances on a huge variety of instruments from Y7 through to Y13, and also to see really large audiences, made of up of parents and other AGGS students/staff.
Many thanks to our peripatetic music teachers, who coach very many of our girls; to Mr Aidan Bradley and Mrs Helen Bray for their insightful and entertaining adjudication throughout the day; to Mrs Gillibrand, Miss Wright for helping with the smooth running of the festival and to Mrs Dickinson for her accompanying.
The Chester Young Musicians Competition is being held in November and the format has changed this year; there will be three categories to include younger children and a wider range of standard. The winners will play in a concert, be awarded a £100 cash prize and have the opportunity to apply for a £500 bursary. The competition is held in Chester but it invites entries from anyone living within a 40 mile radius.
we need some help with our new AGGS Music Festival.
Can you spare a few hours to help us on Wed 21 October to be a steward at our festival? This should be a lovely day and a great way to hear all of our talented musicians here at school as they perform.
If you can help, please contact Ms Mayall (Head of Music) on 0161 912 5912 ext 7131
