Calling all Grade 5+ pianists!

Calling all Pianists

Care homes in Timperley and Partington are looking for sixth former pianists to play the piano for 2 hours per week, as relaxation for their elderly guests.

An ideal opportunity if anyone is looking for Duke of Edinburgh placements or to earn a small amount of pocket money.

A2 Composition Coursework and Recordings

Piccadilly String Quartet with Ruby and Beth

Congratulations to our Y13 musicians who have now completed their A2 composition coursework. They have spent this year listening to music as inspiration and have practised using more advanced harmony and compositional writing. This has resulted in these great pieces of which they should all be very proud.

Corrie G, Miriam B, Beth J, Chi-Yu and Ruby J all performed their own compositions.

We are grateful to the Piccadilly String Quartet who recorded both quartet parts.

Senior Recital, March 2017

Congratulations to our GCSE and A level students who showcased performances and compositions at our Senior Recital – ready for coursework submission at the end of this term. Several of our Y13 students are looking forward to visiting The Manchester Grammar School next week, with their string quartets, ready to be critiqued by Manchester University’s resident Danel’s quartet – a vital part in the compositional process in hearing music performed live.

Congratulations also to Chamber Choir who performed Howard Goodall’s ‘Out of the Deep’ based on a setting of Psalm 30 and Sarah Quartel’s ‘Songbird’. And also to String Orchestra who performed JS Bach’s A minor violin concerto, with Chi-Yu Yu as soloist.

Some excellent singing and playing all round – well done!

AGGS Music Festival

Music Festival 2016

This week saw the showcasing of the talents of 160 performers across 10 different classes at AGGS in our 2nd Music Festival. Both the Church Hall and the Main Hall were buzzing with performances throughout the day, with hundreds of girls able to watch as audience members during the day.

Our 2 adjudicators, Mr Tom Dickinson (Wirral Boys’ GS) and Mrs Kathy Rundell (Wilmslow Prep) gave expert verbal and written feedback to the girls and we are hugely grateful to them in giving of their time to support AGGS in this way.

Thanks too go to Miss Riddle, Mrs Dickinson and Ms Mayall who accompanied over 70 performances and to all the instrumental staff who prepared pupils, including some lovely ensemble arrangements. Endangered instruments was a theme of this year’s festival, with a class showcasing oboe, viola and brass players.

This kind of event wouldn’t be possible without the help of so many administrative staff and parent steward helpers. Particular thanks to Mrs Marshall and Miss Wright who took charge of the adjudicator administration during the day and to Mr Beddow and the caretaking staff for setting up the halls.
