Dance Trophies

If you were lucky enough to receive one of our dance trophies last academic year, then once again a big ‘well done’! Unfortunately the time has now come to return these trophies so that they can be passed on to the next deserving winner. If you have a trophy, please can you make sure you return it to the PE office by Friday 9th March.

Thank you

Indian Dance Workshops

Welcome back after half term, we hope you are feeling rested and ready to start dancing again!

In the week commencing 26th February, there is an exciting opportunity to take part in some Indian dance workshops. The sessions will take place in the gym in the first half of lunch time (12.30-1.00) and will include a taster of belly dancing, Bharatanatyam and Bollywood dance!

The sessions will be led by Sneha (year 11) Deetha (year 12) and Anushka (year 10) so they are guarenteed to be fabulous! If you are interested in taking part, then all you need to do is turn up on your year group’s allocated day.

Year 8 – Monday 26th February

Year 9 – Tuesday 27th February

Year 10 – Wednesday 28th February

Year 7 – Thursday 1st March

Year 11 and sixth form – Friday 2nd March

We hope to see you there!

Countdown to the dance production…

It is now less than a week until our dance production ‘The Animal Kingdom’.

The pieces are looking fantastic and We’re almost ready to go now. There are just a few things that all dancers in the production need to make sure they have done;

1. Returned your permission slip to the PE post box – without it, you can’t perform!

2. Checked the list of performers on the dance noticeboard (gym changing rooms) to make sure your name is there and that it has been spelt correctly.

3. Group leaders and those performing solos etc need to make sure they have given Mrs Anstey a copy of their music.

4. Please make sure you have organised your costumes. Your group leaders should have now told you what you will wear for your performance. It is your responsibility to make sure you bring all of your costumes with you to the dress rehearsal on Thursday afternoon.

5. Make sure you have checked the arrangements for Thursday. All information is on the dance noticeboard (gym changing rooms). Make sure you have checked it carefully so that you leave lessons at the correct time and get to the Garrick safely and on time.

We look forward to seeing you all on production day!

Mrs Collinson and Mrs Anstey

Success for Anushka and Krishnapriya!

Congratulations to Anushka in 10.5 and Krishnapriya in 9.5 who have been successfully selected into the Centre for Advanced Dance Training!

This prestigious programme managed by DanceXchange is a nationwide training initiative for young people aged 11-18. It aims to identify and nurture those with exceptional potential in dance.

Anushka and Krishnapriya will learn Bharatanatyam, a classical South Asian dance form on the Yuva Gati programme and will be showcasing their fabulous skills in the upcoming dance production.

Well done to both Anushka and Krishnapriya on such a fantastic achievement!

It wouldn’t be a AGGS dance residential without our ‘jumping off the wall’ photo! We may even have added a new ‘in the tree’ tradition!

Boy Blue Workshop

Group 1 have been getting their maths heads on this morning! They’ve been enjoying a fabulous workshop with Yolanda from Boy Blue Entertainment. They’ve worked incredibly hard learning the Ninja run from Emancipation of Expressionism.

Our new companies

We have been thinking about a new name for our junior and senior performance groups and have at last, found one that we think works really well!

We wanted a company name that linked to our school and began hunting for suitable words which incorporated ‘AGGS’. It didn’t take us long to realise that AG is of course the chemical symbol for silver and voila! We have our new name!

After some fantastic auditions we look forward to working with the new members of Silver Dance Company (year 10+);

Aisling R, Kira P, Maddie P, Anouska J, Sneha R, Caitlin D, Carlotta M-W, Alex H, Izzy Y, Gabby H, Elsa J, Deetha S, Eloise C-M, Anna C, Isobel C, Evie M, Millie S, Lucia O, Chloe B, Rachael G, Ena B, Alice G and Kerensa S-B.
We also welcome lots of new dancers to our Junior Silver Dance Company (Years 8 and 9);

Alicia R, Beth H, Martha K, Rebecca S, Devanshika R, Emily B, Aurora W, Susanna C, Honor T, Ellie T, Lucy G, Flo S, Florrie M and Melissa H.
Well done to you all, we are really looking forward to creating our ‘Animal Kingdom’ inspired pieces ready for the annual dance Production in February!

Dance Blog is up and running again!

After a busy few weeks we now have our dance blog up and running again! Please make sure you regularly check the dance blog for updates on all of the exciting opportunities available in school. Here are a few things that are happening over the next few weeks.
Last week the GCSE dancers saw a fantastic Rambert triple bill at the Lowry Theatre. We were all impressed with the fabulous works and were particularly excited to see the fabulous Ghost Dances!
This week it is the Junior and Senior performance group auditions. Mrs Collinson and Mrs Anstey are really looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Monday 2nd (years 8 and 9) and Tuesday 3rd (years 10, 11 ,12 and 13)

Just a reminder that unfortunately year 7 dance club is cancelled this Thursday (5th). Mrs Collinson will look forward to seeing you all again next week to continue with our lovely penguin piece.

Next week (13th) the lovely year 10 dancers are off to Menai for their fantastic GCSE Dance residential. Let’s hope they’re all prepared for their busy but fabulous weekend.
Our annual dance production is taking place at the Garrick theatre on Thursday 8th February. Anybody who would like to perform a solo or group dance will need to attend auditions after school on Thursday 23rd November. All group members must attend and each group will need to be able to perform up to one minute of their piece linked to our theme of the animal kingdom. A sign up sheet will be put on the dance noticeboard nearer the time.
If anyone would like any more information about any of the events mentioned, please do not hesitate to ask Mrs Collinson or Mrs Anstey for further details.
