Following the recent terror incident at Manchester Arena, we decided to raise money in school for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund. To do this, we held charity collection buckets at the end of the year group assemblies to collect any loose change from pupils. This proved to be very successful as we managed to raise an astounding £500 in total! The money raised will be used to provide for those affected by the devastating incident in Manchester and their families at this difficult time. We would like to thank everyone for their donations!
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of those who were affected by the terrible incident on Monday evening.
As a way of showing our support The Charity Committee would like to make a donation on behalf of AGGS to “We Love Manchester Emergency Fund” set up by Manchester City Council and The British Red Cross to provide funds for the families of victims of the incident.
If you would like donate, collection buckets will be available at Reception and all assemblies throughout the week after half term.
This year in the Charity Committee we have arranged a series of events to raise money. These included Charity Day, where we had a talent show, a pantomime and lots of stalls packed full with games and food. This whole day was a huge success and we raised an amazing £3,400!
We also held a pancake sale which went down incredibly well and showed itself to be extremely popular as we raised a super £250!
There have been a number of bake sales over the year in which we have always raised a very good sum of money. This year we have raised a staggering total of £7000 of which we presented a cheque worth £1000 to a charity named When You Wish Upon A Star.
When You Wish Upon A Star is a very worthwhile charity who work to grant the wishes of children living with terminal illnesses. They believe that every child deserves to smile and these wishes allow the family to put their child’s illness on hold as they have fun and create precious memories.
This term we are fundraising for The British Heart Foundation. Our first fundraising event is The Valentine cake sale on Wednesday 8th February. All cake donations will be gratefully received, particularly if they’re pink! Pink sweets will also be on sale.
The British Heart Foundation is a charity organisation in the United Kingdom. It is the single biggest funder of cardiovascular research in the UK. The British Heart Foundation was founded in 1961 by a group of medical professionals, who were concerned about the increasing death rate from cardiovascular disease. They wanted to fund extra research into the causes, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart and circulatory disease.
Children in Need Day was a great success and altogether we raised £155. Thank you to Mrs Clutton and the girls who baked the Pudsey Bear cakes for the cake sale at lunch on Wednesday. Some girls came to school with spotty nails for the day and there was a ‘How many sweets in the jar?’ competition. There were 70 and Ashbah 7-1 guessed closest with 68.
