AGGS Sports Personality Of the Year 2018

Congratulations to Emma in Year 10 and Grace in Year 8 who were awarded Sports Personality of the Year.

Emma was awarded the school category for her achievements in athletics and Grace the open category for her achievements in dance outside of school.  We are very proud of them both!

Emma S – National Athletics Success

Having qualified last month at the Greater Manchester Schools Championships, Emma S in Year 10 competed at the English Schools Track & Field Championships at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on the 13-14th of July, representing Greater Manchester. She competed against the most talented athletes from around the country in triple jump. In calm, warm conditions she jumped an impressive distance of 10m74 to come 10th in England even though she is only in the younger year of the U17 age group !

She travelled down by coach with the Greater Manchester team on the Thursday and stayed away in a hotel with the team for two nights. She had an amazing time and I’m sure it’s an experience she won’t forget and is hoping to qualify again next year! We are very proud of Emma’s achievement in this national competition and look forward to hearing of her continued success in the future!

Francesca finished 10th in the world!

We are very proud to share that she finished in 10th position!  It was an amazing race and Francesca did extremely well. Her performance really does bode well for further success at an international level. We look forward to hearing of her achievements in the future!  Her race can be viewed by following this link and forwarding to 1:09:45

Gabriella S Inline Skating Success

Following on from her success at the 2017 World Championships, in Dijon, Gabriella S (Year 11) took part in the 8th World Inline Skating Championships in Cork, Ireland. This year, she competed in the Elite Solo Ice Dance Junior Division (i.e Division 1) having progressed from the 4th Division Junior Ladies and had to skate two programmes – the first contained two compulsory pattern dances – the Starlight Waltz and the Paso Doble (both dances were based on traditional ballroom dances but were, of course, skated on wheels!). Her second programme was a free dance and she chose to skate to ‘You Raise Me Up’ by Westlife.

Having moved up so many divisions, Gabriella fought off some strong competition not only securing a huge increase to her personal best (nearly doubling the score she got when she won Gold in Madrid a couple of months ago) but also finishing in 4th place overall.

Well done Gabriella!

Tilly and her team win the Junior World Inline Championships

Tilly O, July 2018Tilly competed at the Artistic Inline World Championships in Cork, Ireland with her team, Whizz Kids. They are returning as the Junior World Champions. This was a new adventure for them as they skated on wheels and not blades, with only 10 weeks of training. They also got a bronze in the Chorus section.

This is a fantastic achievement for Tilly and her team, well done!

Rounders Champions

The Year 9 and 10 rounders teams are Trafford league champions.
They played the finals last night at AGGS and were unbeaten in their games beating Urmston, Sale Grammar and Flixton. Well done!

English Schools’ Athletics Success at regional level

Congratulations to the Year 9 and 10 students who qualified for the Regional A final of the prestigious English Schools Track and Field Cup.  We were winners at Greater Manchester level and went to Robin Park, Wigan to compete against the best schools across the North West for a place at national finals in Gateshead.

The team were amazing in both the track and the field events with some superb performance and PB’s set.  We finished second place narrowly missing out on a place in the finals.  It is fair to say we were all truly devastated at being so close to that first place spot.

I am extremely proud of the team and the way they handled the whole situation, they are amazing athletes in their physical performance but also their manner and sportsmanship.  Well done my team!

Athletics Success for Francesca!
