AGGS Strikes a Musical Note at Ashlands Manor

Students from AGGS recently performed an impressive music recital for the residents and staff at Ashlands Manor Care Centre in Ashton-upon-Mersey in Sale.

The hour long performance was undertaken by 15 students from Y8 to Y13 at the school and featured songs including ‘Somewhere’ from West Side Story, ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ and ‘You Raise Me Up’.

There was a variety of music from soloists to group singing and some ensemble songs from the choir. In some instances, songs were accompanied by the ukulele.

Residents and staff at the care facility located on Ashlands were delighted to be visited by the students from Altrincham Girls’ Grammar School and really enjoyed the performance.

Home manager at Ashlands Manor, Suzi Sumegi, commented: “The visit was wonderful. Regardless of their age, our residents love music and we aim to entertain and delight them as frequently as possible with special performances and one-off shows. The pupils from Altrincham Girls’ Grammar School were incredibly professional and performed a fabulous recital that has had toes tapping ever since.”

Head of Music at Altrincham Girls’ Grammar School, Julia Mayall, added: “The students relish every opportunity to perform and we were thrilled to be invited to Ashlands Manor. It was lovely to see the residents enjoying the music and joining in with the songs that they knew.”

Students raise £500 carol singing in Altrincham for St Annes’ Hospice

Continuing from the previous post about the group of Y12 students who sang for charity just before Christmas, see is the response of the St. Annes’ Hospice volunteer coordinator:

I would just like to inform you about the fantastic charity work that was carried out by a number of your pupils, Flora W and some of her friends voluntarily came to sing carols on Friday 22nd December at Starbucks in Altrincham during their lunch time to help raise money for St Ann’s Hospice.
They were absolutely brilliant and very professional too! They helped us raise a brilliant total of £500.00 that afternoon and they really were fantastic and an asset to your school.

Well done to Flora and her team!

Singing at Starbucks

Last Tuesday lunchtime, 12th December, a small group of singers went along to Starbucks to help out the St Ann’s hospice fundraisers.

St Ann’s hospice were grateful and said that they received more donations from passers-by while we were singing. We all got into the festive spirit, singing a variety of traditional carols as well as Have Yourself a merry little Christmas and our favourite, Carol of the Bells!
