Design a Dessert Competition

Design a Dessert - 1st place

This week, Wednesday 8th February, was the opening night of “Fireworks” the new dessert restaurant in Altrincham, next to the cinema. As the three winners of the design a dessert competition that took place in school this term, Sophia, Jenny and Jemima were all invited to this launch event. Sophia, as the overall winner, was asked to cut the ribbon to open the restaurant officially. The three girls were accompanied by their parents and teachers. We had a lovely evening tasting all the delights of the new menu and the chefs created the desserts the girls had designed for them to try. Thank you to all those who entered. The level of effort that went in to all the designs was fantastic and the quality of the work outstanding..

Charity money

The students raised an amazing £3,400 for Manchester Christie Hospital Charity, When you wish upon a Star and Dementia UK on the last day of term. We also sponsor an orphan in Pakistan, our donation of £300 contributes towards food, water, health, education, school supplies and other general necessities which we may take for granted.

This term we are fundraising for The British Heart Foundation. Our first fundraising event is The Valentine cake sale on Wednesday 8th February. All cake donations will be gratefully received, particularly if they’re pink! Pink sweets will also be on sale.

The British Heart Foundation –British Heart Foundation

The British Heart Foundation is a charity organisation in the United Kingdom. It is the single biggest funder of cardiovascular research in the UK. The British Heart Foundation was founded in 1961 by a group of medical professionals, who were concerned about the increasing death rate from cardiovascular disease. They wanted to fund extra research into the causes, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart and circulatory disease.

MUN Success

This weekend saw x2 AGGS delegations represented at the annual MUN High conference and Manchester High School for Girls. We had the interesting task of representing the USA and Algeria. Aside from the Trump references a great time was had by all and some very high standard of debating occurred across the board. We had some first time delegates and some very experienced delegates with us this weekend.

A huge well done to all involved, particular congratulations go to

Sanah Kashyap who received an outstanding delegate award in the media committee and Amelia Gilchrist who achieved an commended delegate award in the environment committee.

School Council Training

On Friday 21st October the newly elected school council reps had their training session.

After Wednesday’s election this was the first time that students from each year group were able to get together and build their team working skills and explore some of the issues that school council will be focusing on this academic year.

Year groups began with the spaghetti tower challenge to help consider the different skills they may need as school council reps and to get to know one another better.

Following this challenge each year group worked on their focus. This is a task to get the school council reps started and to allow them time to gather other ideas from their own forms.

The focuses for this year are:

Year 7: Transition – How can we make your journey from primary to secondary better?

Year 8: Improving the library

Year 9: The Wellbeing Room

Year 10: Merit criteria and award assemblies

Year 11: The Pupil Blog Page

Make sure you keep an ear out from your form’s reps and keep a check on the Pupil Voice page for further School Council updates.
