24 Charity Karate, taught by Mr. Carr

March brings another event with it – 24 hours of karate. On Friday 9th March from 5pm I will be teaching karate in hour long slots until 5pm on the Saturday, in the drama studio at school. Everyone is welcome to come and try it. Bring your family and friends and kids (they must be at least 5 years old) for an hour.

£5 per hour, or three hours for £12, all proceeds to Mind and Macmillan. Email me to book a time slot…if you get enough people together I’ll give you a bulk booking and reserve that hour just for you and your group:

The quiz…and on to the next one.

The quiz on Friday 23rd February was a bigger success than I could have hoped for. Thank you to everyone who either came along, made a bid on the auction, donated a prize. The final counting has been done and the event raised £713.82 which is just brilliant.

Mr Carr’s Charity Challenges – the end of January and the start of the next challenge!!

R.E.D. January is over, with Mr Carr running a total distance of 103 miles. As revealed in the previous newsletter, February will see Mr Carr host a charity quiz here at AGGS on Friday 23rd at 6pm. The cost is £12 per team with each team having a maximum of 8 members. It’s an adult only event so leave the kids at home and come along for the fun. Bring your own refreshments and some spare money to get involved in the “between round” activities.

As an added challenge Mr Carr will be doing some swimming over the next 6 months. Back in 2014 he swam the equivalent of the channel at its narrowest point – 21 miles – in the pool. This time he is aiming to swim the equivalent of its widest point – 150 miles – over 6 months in the pool and outdoors.

Mr Carr’s 12-12-12 Charity Challenge 2018

Mr Carr's 12-12-12Between the summers of 2014 and 2015 Mr Carr took on a series of challenges, one per month, for twelve charities. Events included things like the Manchester Marathon, the Great Manchester Cycle, Movember, a 160ft bungee jump and a head shave. He managed to raise over £2400.

Mr Carr has decided that 2018 is the year to do it again, but this time bigger and better (and perhaps harder?!) with the hope of raising even more money. Twelve challenges across twelve months, this time for two charities, Macmillan and Mind. The third twelve in 12-12-12 this time comes from the fact that Mr Carr is only asking people to sponsor him £12 (though feel free to give more or less).
Events this time include R.E.D. January (Run Every Day January), the Manchester Marathon, the Great North Swim, the Windermere triathlon, cycling coast to coast, and more. Keep your eye on the bulletin for updates and information about forthcoming events that we all could get involved with.
