Year 12 Careers Fortnight 2017

Y12 Careers Fortnight Careers talk by Hilti Engineering

ASPIREBetween 6-17th November, we held our Year 12 ‘Careers Fortnight’. The aim of this fortnight was to provide Year 12 students with resources and information to help them to make more informed decisions about what they might wish to do post 18, whether it is university, an apprenticeship scheme, a gap year or employment.

Activities included a trip to Sheffield University, where students attended a talk about how to choose a university, tour of the university campus and a sample lecture. Students had the opportunity to take part in a workshop, ‘The Hidden Job Market,’ where they were able to network with employers from the grocery industry and hear about their different interesting jobs and their journeys to reach them. The aim of the workshop was to encourage students to reflect on the opportunities available to them in the future, and what they can be doing now to get there. We were also delighted to welcome a number of visitors into school, who kindly volunteered their time to offer practice 1:1 interviews for each student in Year 12. We invited various careers speakers and ex-students to give talks in assemblies, lessons and at lunchtime.

Thank you to all of those who were involved in making this such a success.

“We are currently preparing students for jobs that don’t yet exist . . . using technologies that haven’t been invented . . . in order to solve problems we don’t even know are problems yet.”

New Head Girls

Head Girls 2017

Congratulations to our new team of head girls, who have recently been appointed following a rigorous application process. The roles have changed this year and the head girls will now lead the seven main student groups that work throughout the school. We were extremely impressed with the calibre of the candidates, in every step of the application process. Applicants were a credit to themselves and the school and it was a difficult decision to select only seven students. We are very much looking forward to working with our new team next year and developing these roles further.

Head girls responsible for school council: Celine B and Florence A
Head girl responsible for wellbeing: Nydile R
Head girl responsible for anti bullying: Tara M
Head girl responsible for peer mentoring and lower school links: Jyotsna A
Head girl responsible for student digital leaders: Mehar A
Head girl responsible for charity committee: Lybah H

Year 13 Leaving Breakfast & Assembly 2017

On Friday 19th May we said goodbye to our Year 13 leavers as they went on study leave to prepare for their A level examinations. We had a lovely morning of celebration, beginning with a special breakfast where students signed yearbooks and spent time with friends and teachers. The morning ended with students final ever assembly at AGGS, which included some superb performances from members of their year. Many tears were shed as students sang their favourite hymns and said goodbye. We hope that they cherish their memories of AGGS as they embark on the next stage of their lives and wish them luck with their A level examinations and for the future. We hope that they will keep in touch by registering with our alumnae organisation here: https://networks.futurefirst.org.uk/student/AGGS

A Level Presentation 2016

A-Levels Leavers Breakfast 2016

It was a pleasure to welcome last year’s Year 13 students back to school on Wednesday evening, for their A level certificate presentation. This year group achieve a superb set of results in their A levels in the summer, with 100% pass rate and 90% of all exams taken graded A*-B. Staff were delighted to see so many students and hear of their adventures since leaving the school. We wish them all well in their future endeavours and hope they will keep in touch with the school.
