Hayley at the English Junior squash championship

SquashHayley competed in the Under 19 girls category of the English Junior squash championships, held at Edgbaston Priory last weekend, and came a very commendable 9th overall in a tournament which is only open to the top 16 seeded players in the country.

Competitive squash has largely had to be pushed to one side this year for Hayley, as she has committed to her academic studies, so to come out and play against the country’s best,  and perform as well as she did, was all the more impressive!

Hayley continues to promote the game and encourage other girls to get on court and enjoy it with a regular Tuesday coaching session, which she lays on after school each week at Bowdon Club. Do come along if you want to have a go!

A Big Thank You

We would like to thank all players for making this season one of the most successful for a very long time. It has also been a very enjoyable one with a lot of laughs along the way. We would also like to thank the parents for their tireless support on the sides of the pitch, in all weathers, on a Saturday morning and also for transporting the girls to fixtures and tournaments near and far.

We really do appreciate it – thank you. Mrs Finch and Mrs O’Neal

We have also entered 3 teams in the U15 and U13 Lawn Tennis Association School team tennis competition. These matches will largely be played after school but some may be played during school time.

1stX1 v Portadown College, Ireland

After a great season it was disappointing that the team lost 11-1 to this team. It was just one of those days when nothing went right for us and everything went well for them. The best part of the day was when one of their team presented Hannah Wells with a school shirt as Hannah’s dad had been to the school. This was a lovely gesture and a wonderful surprise for Hannah.

The team started well beating Alderley Edge School for Girls, Cheshire 5-0 and Newman School, Cumbria 5-0.

We then played the favourites West Kirby from Merseyside. The match depended on the final game which we lost so lost the match 3-2. The girls played some very good badminton in this match but West KIrby were just that bit stronger than us. Our final game was against St Michael’s School, Lancashire, The wind had gone from the girls sails and they did not have a good match, losing 4-1.
