This term we are fundraising for The British Heart Foundation. Our first fundraising event is The Valentine cake sale on Wednesday 8th February. All cake donations will be gratefully received, particularly if they’re pink! Pink sweets will also be on sale.
The British Heart Foundation is a charity organisation in the United Kingdom. It is the single biggest funder of cardiovascular research in the UK. The British Heart Foundation was founded in 1961 by a group of medical professionals, who were concerned about the increasing death rate from cardiovascular disease. They wanted to fund extra research into the causes, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart and circulatory disease.
Charity day was an enormous success!
Beginning with the year 13 pantomime we saw students being put to the test at AGGS -with the prize of an “Alty boy” if they survived! Challenges ranged from cakes in food tech to getting past the one way system and Donald Trump. Teachers and students enjoyed it and the song was the perfect end. Continue reading Charity day 2016→
On Thursday 15th December, students and teachers wore Christmas jumpers to school. As well as it being a lovely start to the Festive Season, we managed to raise £471.39 for CRY (Cardiac Arrest in the Young) in memory of Chloe Waddell who died of a cardiac arrest.
The Christie is the largest cancer centre in Europe, treating 40,000 patients a year. Based in Withington with radiotherapy centres in Oldham and Salford, The Christie is known for many world-firsts which have impacted on cancer treatment across the globe.
The Christie charity provides enhanced services over and above what the NHS funds. Gifts from the public make a huge difference to the care and treatment that The Christie is able to provide to our patients and their families.
When You Wish Upon a Star has a simple mission, to grant the Wishes of children living with a life threatening illness. The charity was founded in Nottingham by Barbara White who was so inspired by a seriously ill four year old with a dream to meet Mickey Mouse that she wanted to bring smiles to the faces of many more brave and courageous children
Dementia UK offers specialist one-to-one support and expert advice for families living with dementia. Our donation will help provide the compassionate expert support families need every step of the way, helping them to live more positively with dementia in the present; and to face the challenges of tomorrow with more confidence and less fear.
Children in Need Day was a great success and altogether we raised £155. Thank you to Mrs Clutton and the girls who baked the Pudsey Bear cakes for the cake sale at lunch on Wednesday. Some girls came to school with spotty nails for the day and there was a ‘How many sweets in the jar?’ competition. There were 70 and Ashbah 7-1 guessed closest with 68.
This term we will be supporting Macmillan Cancer Support so we have a range of events planned that will be going on to help support this cause. We took part in The World’s Biggest Coffee morning on Thursday 29th September. Money raised will be anonounced soon.
