Year 9 Fashion Designs

Year 9 fashion designs

Here are some fabulous examples of Miss Taylor’s Year 9 fashion designs based on the work of Alexander McQueen and inspired by their own studies of reptiles and butterflies. They created their designs using repeat patterns and on their first design used fine line pen and water, the creativity and attention to details are stunning. They are currently working on their second design using collage and papercut. Fantastic work!!!

Yellena James’ Amazing Response to our Students’ Letter

Our Year 7 students sent a letter to the artist Yellena James which was inspired by her art work, and they got in response the most amazing set of letters addressed to each student individually!

See the letter which was sent to Yellena in the USA:

Murals on the Sixth-Form Common Room’s walls

As a way to make the 6th form common room more of a personal social space, some of the year 12 and year 13 students have been working on designing a mural to brighten up the space. The theme was ‘our future’, and we discussed the idea of growth and development, future careers, and the part AGGS plays in all of that. We chose a blossoming tree with various career paths and future options written on the petals. The birds represent development and are flying away from the tree, becoming more unique as they leave the AGGS nest – these birds are also dotted around the common room walls. The project was lead by one of our art teachers, Miss Silver, and pupils worked well as a team with the art department to make the project a reality. This week, in our final week of term, the painting of the mural has finally been completed! We are all very pleased with the outcome, and proud of our new common room space. 😊

A-Level Art Exhibition and Alumnae Evening 2017

A-level Art Exhibition and Alumni Evening 2017
A-level Art Exhibition and Alumni Evening 2017

The Altrincham Grammar School for Girls annual art exhibition and alumni evening was held on Tuesday 20th June. It was a superb opportunity to celebrate the work of their talented A level students and an opportunity for students who graduated from as long ago as 1956 to mingle with the proud parents, the students and other invited guests.

It was a beautiful summer evening and the work matched the lovely weather with a varied and rich selection of styles full of quality and creativity on display. Phil Doyle director of Manchester based architects 5Plus was on hand to award the inaugural 5plus AGGS “Creativity in the Arts” prize to a deserving selection of students. 5Plus are keen to promote the importance of the arts and are already involved in similar schemes with the Manchester Art School. Voted the best architectural practice in the North West for the last two years, they are keen to recognise up and coming talent. There was certainly no shortage to choose from in this exciting and diverse exhibition.
