Emma S – National Athletics Success

Having qualified last month at the Greater Manchester Schools Championships, Emma S in Year 10 competed at the English Schools Track & Field Championships at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on the 13-14th of July, representing Greater Manchester. She competed against the most talented athletes from around the country in triple jump. In calm, warm conditions she jumped an impressive distance of 10m74 to come 10th in England even though she is only in the younger year of the U17 age group !

She travelled down by coach with the Greater Manchester team on the Thursday and stayed away in a hotel with the team for two nights. She had an amazing time and I’m sure it’s an experience she won’t forget and is hoping to qualify again next year! We are very proud of Emma’s achievement in this national competition and look forward to hearing of her continued success in the future!

Mr. Carr’s Charity Update, July 2018

Mr. Carr’s charity challenges so far:

In June I swam a minimum of half a mile EVERY DAY, including open water swimming. This month (July) I’m doing a “trio of triathlons” – Windermere, Ambleside (both already completed) and Holmes Chapel (22/7). I’ve nearly raised £2000 but still pushing that £3000 target. Sponsorship can still be donated at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/JohnCarr121212 and my blog can be read at johnscharity121212.wordpress.com

Site-sensitive dance on the Devisdale

Year 10 GCSE Dance students have been creating their own versions of ‘Within Her Eyes’ by James Cousins. This is a professional dance from the GCSE Dance anthology. It is a site-sensitive dance for camera, using lots of contact work.

Our students have created their own versions and have been filming their dances in our local Devisdale park. They have had to consider locations, camera angles and choreographic devices to portray their own chosen choreographic intentions.

We have had lovely weather, beautiful locations and stunning choreography and performances. We are really looking forward to seeing the finished dance films.
