year 9 have been creating some fantastic work today….
Again we have seen our talented A level artists showcase their wonderful artwork at the annual Summer Exhibition. All of the girls worked hard throughout the the year, creating skilled and diverse work. These ranged from delicate hand cut paper dress designs, stunning painted portraits and textile explorations to some of the most exquisite drawings and sculptural pieces. We had a lovely preview evening where the girls brought their families and friends to celebrate their achievements. The exhibition also delighted the Year 5s and their parents when visiting the school for the Open evening, many of whom were full of compliments and were very impressed with the high standard.
We were very pleased to know that two of our entries to the BBC competition ‘The Little Painting Challenge’ have been chosen to be in an exhibition at the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester. The paintings were chosen from the thousands of entries received.
The exhibition showcases one thousand of the best entries and is being held in the Grand Hall at the Whitworth from Friday 1st May until 22nd May.
On Friday 6th March, Mr Payne and Mrs Hurst took 20 year 9 students to a workshop organised at the new Whitworth Art Gallery. The students worked with an artist called Laura Atkinson and focused on textiles/fine art work. They really enjoyed it, the new space was impressive and the students saw Cornelia Parker’s famous works ‘Cold Dark Matter’ (exploding shed) and ‘The Distance’.
