What inspired you at school?

AGGS made me determined to be independent & to achieve. My education here was holistic & provided balance across different subjects.

Work hard & play hard. Enjoy every minute of your time at AGGS!

What have you done since leaving AGGS to get to where you are today? (eg work experience, GAP year, apprenticeship, volunteering, travelling)

Spent an internship year in New York having attended a business & secretarial college in Oxford. Moved to London & spent 6 years working for Christie’s Auctionees (working in client services & managing the front of house). Moved to Seagram Distillers & progressed through Human Resources, latterly working as part of European HR team. Moved back to the North west circa 2001 & worked for KPMG in consulting for SME’s. Joined integrated Dental as part of Executive team with responsibility for HR & Recruitment. We sold the business in 2011.

Business experience & understanding.

What is a typical work day like for you?

Varies depending on portfolio needs.

What is the best bit about your job and do you have a particular career highlight?

Variety & flexibility. Lots of career highlights – working in New York (Wall Street) was immense at the age of 20. London experience at Christie’s & Seagrams was challenging.

What are the worst things about your job?

Paperwork!

What skills help you most in your job (i.e. teamwork, communication, leadership, time management)?

Interpersonal skills and organisation skills.

What advice would you give to students looking to get into your line of work? (e.g. subjects to study, getting work experience)

Very important to gain commercial experience as soon as you are able, either through part time/Saturday work.
